Employment: I have worked for the American Cancer Society for more than 17 years and currently hold the position of communications manager. I graduated from Macalester College, St. Paul, MN with a BA in International Studies and Political Science. My day job has instilled in me the appreciation for working for organizations with a mission.

Volunteer: My husband and I have lived in Whitewater for the past 15 years and have devoted a significant amount of our time to making Whitewater a better place to live, work, and play. I currently serve as the president of the Board of Trustees for the Irvin L. Young Memorial Public Library, as a director on the board for the League of Women Voters – Whitewater Area, the treasurer of the Historic Starin Park Neighborhood Association, as well as being on the board of the Whitewater Grocery Co.

Experience, education, and skills that contribute to effectiveness as a board member? I have deep organizational skills, run tight meetings, know tried and true methods to keep people on task, and I am able to ask insightful questions that get to the heart of a problem and help break it down into manageable tasks.

Past experiences have you had with food co-ops? I’ve both shopped and belong to various food co-ops throughout the years. When given the option between a big box grocery store and a co-op, you'll find me at the co-op. Co-ops are about community and working together to benefit the community as a whole. Being part of a grassroots effort to create a food co-op has made a profound difference in my life: I’m working with a group of people whose shared commitment to cooperative values and principles is demonstrating the effect that the commitment can make in and for a community. I believe that a food co-op is an integral part of a healthy community to support local agriculture, produce and food sources.

Favorite Food: Beer

Three Favorite Songs: 20 years ago, I started working on my top 5 favorite songs of all time. The list changes periodically, but these three are always part of it! Nightswimming by R.E.M., Rain King by the Counting Crows, and Mystery by the Indigo Girls.

Inspirational Co-Op: Green Top Grocery in Bloomington, Illinois. After five years of planning, this 10,000 square foot co-op recently opened in May, 2017. Not only is it an extremely bright, well-stocked store, it is part of a retail development that includes a toy store and a bike store!
