Employment: I'm a distinguished Professor and Director of the Doctor of Business Administration Program at UW Whitewater.

Volunteer Experience: I was a Board member of Rock Prairie Montessori School, Board member of Lincoln Inquiry Charter School and part of team that wrote and received three annual grants of $250,000.

Experience, education, and skills that contribute to effectiveness as a board member? I have significant experience translating ideas into reality. I created the Doctor of Business Administration Program at UW Whitewater. Despite initial resistance, I pitched the idea to the Dean and created a team to create the curriculum. The program was then presented to the University of Wisconsin system board of regents. The program was then started in the Fall of 2014. Today, the program will soon welcome its sixth cohort and is very vibrant. I believe I can use such skills to work with other board members to get the Whitewater Grocery store closer to reality.

Past experiences you had with food co-ops? I grew up on the Island of Mauritius and recall shopping with my parents at a local cooperative.  These experiences made me understand the importance of local grocery stores and their impact on communities. I look forward using such experiences to assist the board.

Favorite Food: Lamb biryani (my mom’s, who else?), Bibimpap (my wife’s!) and Galbi jjim (my mother-in-law’s). But I love all cuisines as I grew up in Mauritius and the food is a mixture of French, Indian, and Chinese cuisines.

Three Favorite Songs: Too many to list. Growing up on Mauritius, I listened mostly to Bollywood and French songs. I discovered many of the US bands when I moved here. My three current favorite songs are Majesty by Nicki Minaj, Boy with luv by BTS and Malamente by Rosalia. But if I really have to choose three favorite songs, I would say Racine pe Brille by Racine Tatane, What I got by Sublime, and Man on the Moon by REM. Ask me again in one week.

Inspirational Co-Op: Willy Street Coop!  Great selection of produce and they are expanding.  But I am also a judge for the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau Torch Awards and saw that they also just won the 2019 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for their ethical practices. We do need to celebrate ethical practices.
